Özet

People need to create places to meet their most basic needs. Places are spaces that have meaning. Space and place are considered as a complex and dynamic system intertwined. In order to understand the 'place' in the transformation of space into 'place', first of all, it is necessary to examine the concept of space. When we look at the historical process of space and place concepts, the change in the scientific world has also changed our understanding of space. The space, which was first perceived as an endless container, has become a structure that has a subjective and objective aspect and is shaped by social and cultural norms in the process. In the holistic approach to space, human is not just an object in space; The interaction of space and individual forms the basis of understanding society. Contrary to the Cartesian view, in the phenomenological way of thinking, man relates to space through his experiences, the human body and space are an inseparable whole. Space reproduces itself in the subject-object relationship. With the factor of time and life, space turns into a 'place' with a unique identity where relationships and stories are produced. Space and place are in a dialectical relationship. These two concepts constitute a whole that belongs to each other and is part of each other. The concept of 'place' includes the concept of space. Space refers to the general and is defined according to its physical characteristics, while the 'place' is unique and particular. While the human factor transforms the space into 'place', 'place' defines our existence together with the things revealed by social life. The 'place', which makes it possible for life to emerge, represents a concrete reflection of the living space and encompasses all intangible values. Places that require intuitive understanding contain different semantics far beyond the space with the atmosphere they have. The study aims to examine the organic bond between space and place and the transformation of space into place. Investigating the existence characteristic that determines the 'place' will increase the use of the existing potentials of the place and contribute to the development of the place. In this context, it is aimed that the study will guide the place makers.
