Investigation of Nurses’ Opinions on Foreign Nationality Patient Care Hemşirelerin Yabancı Uyruklu Hasta Bakımına Yönelik Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Özet

Aim: This research has been planned to examine the professional and institutional preparations of nurses for foreign patients and to identify the difficulties they experienced regarding their care. Method: The descriptive study was carried out in two private hospitals in Istanbul. Hundred and eighty volunteer nurses participated in the study. The data were collected using the Information Form created by the researchers. Frequency, percentage and chi-square tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: It has been determined that 62.8% of the nurses’ foreign language was insufficient, 67.2% of foreign students negatively affected nursing care practices, undergraduate /graduate nurses, those who knew a foreign language and worked less than five years had less difficulty in the care of foreign patients. Conclusion: It was demonstrated that the nurses were unable to communicate with the foreign patients and their relatives which negatively affected data collection, and other relevant procedures. For this reason, it is recommended that a supportive environment should be provided by schools to students, by nurse managers to nurses during their nursing practice, resources should be ensured for continuing education, appropriate healthcare procedures, and communication resources should be offered to foreign patients.
