Özet
Scapulothoracic arthrodesis was mostly used in the scapular winging of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophic patients to provide a stable fulcrum for the late involved deltoid and rotators. Scapulothoracic arthrodesis had less frequently been a salvage option in congenital scapular deformities or for treating patients with other paralyzed shoulder girdle muscles in addition to serratus anterior. Technical difficulties and postoperative complications are the main drawbacks. A modified method of scapulothoracic arthrodesis using a spinal rod and a pedicle screw construct is described. The main advantage is to obtain rigid fixation, enabling early motion. © 2005 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
