Özet
In Islamic cities that developed outside of the castle, the most important structures that directed the city's development are mosques and masjids. As a result of contemporary urbanization regulations, the surroundings of these structures have undergone change, and they themselves have also been affected by this change over time. Repairs that are generally required as a result of natural disasters, functional additions, and environmental interventions have made some changes inevitable in historical structures as well. In this article, it is aimed to document this process based on written and visual sources in and around Eyuboglu Mosque in Gaziantep. Eyuboglu Mosque, which played an important role in the development of Gaziantep outside the castle; is a structure that, unlike the general trend, enabled the city to expand and become more neighbourhood-oriented towards the west. For this reason, the chronological examination of the change process of the mosque and its surroundings provides important data about the development of the city. The transformation of the roads around the mosque into important axes of the city, and subsequently, the construction of multi-storey buildings on both sides of these axes, has resulted in the structure, which is located at an important position in the city skyline, becoming unperceivable from landmark points like a fortress. How this situation affects the perception of cultural properties and the whole city is exemplified in the case of Eyuboglu Mosque.
