Özet
Schwannomas (also known as neuromas, neurinomas, or neurilemomas) are benign, slow growing, commonly well encapsulated neoplasm that arise from spinal roots and cervical, sympathetic, vagus, peroneal and ulnar nerves. Extracranially 25% of all schwannomas are located in the head and neck region. The eighth cranial nerve is the most frequent site involved, followed by the fifth and the seventh cranial nerves, the lateral cervical region, and the oral cavity. The treatment of choice is surgical excision of the tumor. Schwannomas do not show recurrence if completely excised. In this study we present a patient with primary schwannoma of thyroid gland and discussed with only few reports exist in the literature.
