COMMUNITY-BASED DIGITAL AND AI LITERACY TRAINING FOR HOUSEWIVES: AN IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT EVALUATION

Özet

Rapid digital transformation has changed the way individuals access public services, healthcare, banking, and daily life resources. While these developments provide convenience and efficiency, they also create new challenges for individuals with limited digital skills. One of the most affected groups is housewives, who often have limited opportunities for formal digital education despite being responsible for household-related online tasks such as paying bills, scheduling medical appointments, and managing family needs. This study presents a community-based digital and artificial intelligence literacy training program designed specifically for housewives and evaluates its impact on their daily digital competence and awareness. The training program was conducted at our school and focused on practical, real life applications. The curriculum included secure online bill payment, identifying and avoiding digital fraud and scam attempts, safe use of e-government services, and making hospital appointments through online health systems. In addition, participants were introduced to the basic concepts of artificial intelligence, including how AI-powered systems work, how recommendation and automated decision systems operate, and how to critically evaluate information generated by AI tools. Special emphasis was placed on cybersecurity awareness, password safety, recognizing phishing messages, and protecting personal data. The program followed a hands-on learning approach, allowing participants to practice each task using real interfaces in a guided environment. Pre and post-training observations indicated an increase in participants’ confidence, independence, and willingness to use digital services without external assistance. Participants reported reduced anxiety regarding online transactions and improved ability to distinguish reliable platforms from potential fraud attempts. The findings highlight that targeted digital and AI literacy programs can play a crucial role in reducing the digital divide and increasing social inclusion. Empowering housewives with digital skills not only improves individual autonomy but also contributes to household efficiency, financial safety, and better access to healthcare services. The study suggests that similar community-based training models can be expanded to support other digitally disadvantaged groups and promote responsible, safe, and effective use of digital and artificial intelligence technologies in everyday life.
