Özet

Ogilvie’s syndrome, acute colonic pseudo-obstruction, is characterized by clinical and radiological

evidence of acute large bowel obstruction in the absence of a mechanical cause. This disorder

is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, and, therefore, requires urgent surgical

evaluation. The condition frequently affects elderly people with underlying ilness. Ischemia and perforation

are the most feared complications of the disease. Early recognition and prompt appropriate

management are critical to minimising poor outcomes. The initial step in management of this syndrome

is conservative approach. Surgical management should be reserved for patients who fail pharmacologic

and endoscopic efforts.
