Özet

ABSTRACT

Prolotherapy is a conservative treatment method that promotes healing by injecting small amounts of

proliferation-stimulating solutions into damaged joints, tendons, and ligaments. It is highly reliable and

effective when administered by experienced and trained personnel. Its use in musculoskeletal pain is

based on the theory that pain is caused by relaxation and instability resulting from weakened ligaments.

Treatment involves injecting weakened tendons and ligaments with an irritating solution to stimulate

proliferation and stabilize the ligaments. This treatment is based on wound healing physiology. After

injection, fibroblast hyperplasia, cell proliferation and an increase in collagen fiber diameter in tendons

and ligaments result in clinically significant pain reduction, functional improvement, and increased

tendon and ligament strength.

The foot and ankle region is structurally rich in ligaments and tendons and functionally highly mobile,

which is why injuries are common. Following injuries, relaxation of the tendons and ligaments,

increased joint instability, and pain are observed. Prolotherapy promotes tendon and ligament regeneration

in the foot and ankle region, thereby correcting tendon relaxation and joint instability, which

are considered causes of pain. This treatment is based on the ‘wound healing physiology’. Following

injection, fibroblast hyperplasia, cell proliferation and an increase in collagen fiber diameter in tendons

and ligaments result in a clinical reduction in pain, functional improvement and an increase in tendon

and ligament strength.

Today, physicians and patients are increasingly opting for non-surgical treatment methods. Prolotherapy

is a reliable and effective conservative treatment method that initiates regeneration, provides pain

relief and functional improvement, and results in healing of joints, tendons, and ligaments.
